Simon Kjaer Biography
Simon Kjær is the Danish defender who currently plays for Italian Serie A side Roma. He is regarded as one of the best young players to hail from Denmark in recent years. He has represented the Danish youth teams in various levels, and he currently represents the senior team. Simon Kjær started his career with Midtjylland. Even when he was with the youth Academy of Midtjylland, the club received plenty of offers to sign the player. However, Midtjylland rejected most of their advances, and finally, Simon Kjær made his debut for the club in 2007.
It proved to be a vital season for the youngster, but also the final season at Midtjylland. The pressure to sell the player became so great that Midtjylland finally accepted to sell the player to Palermo in 2008. In his single season with Midtjylland, Simon Kjær had made 21 appearances in total. Even though he did not score reading goals for Midtjylland, his first season was regarded to be a huge success in many ways. The move to Palermo brought new opportunities for the youngster, as he quickly settled in Italy.
Before moving to Palermo, Simon Kjær was linked with a move to Chelsea, but it did not materialise. Despite not scoring for Midtjylland, Simon Kjær scored in his first season with Palermo, in which he also made 27 appearances. The following season, though, proved to be the most crucial one, as it was a season in which he was established as an important member of the squad. The € 4 million transfer from Midtjylland was proving to be an excellent acquisition, as Simon Kjær had a great season with Palermo.
It was not long before these performances began to attract attention from the likes of Fiorentina and Wolfsburg. In the end, Simon Kjær moved to German club Wolfsburg in the summer of 2010 for an undisclosed amount. It turned out to be a great move for both parties as Simon Kjær continued to impress for his new club. He made 34 appearances in all competitions in his first-ever season in Germany, while also scoring a goal in the process.
However, the following season was extremely difficult for the Simon Kjær, as the club struggled to exert the same form from the following season. It was not long before Simon Kjær found himself out of favour with Wolfsburg. In his second season, Simon Kjær made just three league appearances all season. In the summer of 2011, it was announced that Simon Kjær would be moving to Italian Serie A side Roma on a loan deal. Roma also included an option to purchase the youngster should they be successful once again in Italy.
After appearing for the Danish national team in various stages, Simon Kjær finally made his senior team debut in 2009 before establishing himself as a first team player. He was part of the Danish national team that went to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Simon Kjær has won the Danish Talent of the Year award in 2009.
